Arlene V. Jurgerson Obituary (1929

Rio - Arlene Viola (Christian) Jurgerson died on Easter Sunday morning, April 5, 2015 at the Remington House in Pardeeville, Wisconsin. She joined her beloved son, Joel, in heaven on his birthday. She was 86 years old. Arlene was born in Columbus, Wisconsin on March 19, 1929 to Ruben and Edna (Wesenberg) Christian. She married Wallace Jurgerson in December 1951. She and Wallace lived in the Rio area, raising eight children: Jill Landsverk, Jan Jurgerson, Holly (Donald) Bach, John Jurgerson, Joel Jurgerson, Jim (Kim) Jurgerson, Jerry (Christi) Jurgerson and Peter (Lisa) Jurgerson. Arlene and Wallace were married for almost 50 years when he died in September 2001. Arlene was passionate about reading and sitting in the sun as well as studying archeology, which eventually led her to travel to Israel. She also enjoyed traveling to Mexico and many other places in the United States with her children. She shared many good times with her husband and sons at the family's Mississippi River cabin near Dakota, Minnesota. Growing up during the depression in a family of 14 children, Arlene developed a strong will and a strong work ethic early on in life. She also had a tremendous love for her family. Fiercely independent, Arlene resisted the move to Remington House in June 2014, but over time she grew to appreciate the great care and love she received from the staff. Arlene is survived by 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Karen Dykstra and Diane (John) Potenberg; and five brothers, Wallace (Marlene) Christian, Kenny (Lola) Christian, Ruben (Delores) Christian, James (Judy) Christian and Dennis (Patricia) Christian. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wallace; her son, Joel; her parents, Edna and Ruben; and her sisters Jane, Doris, Glenda, Edna, Elaine and Lorraine. In keeping with Arlene's wishes, there will be a private family funeral service. Her ashes will be interred at the Bonnet Prairie Lutheran Cemetery in Rio. In lieu of memorials to the family, donations to the Rio Public Library, where Arlene was able to obtain the hundreds of books she read, would be welcomed. The family would like to thank the Remington House staff for their loving care and the Heartland Hospice staff who made Arlene's last days so much more comfortable.
