Cher Vang Obituary (1979

Madison - Cher Vang, less than a month shy of his 42nd birthday, passed away Tuesday morning, October 5, 2021 at UW Hospital. He was born November 2, 1979 to Houa Vang and Mai Her in Nong Khai, Thailand. His family migrated to the US in 1981. They settled in Watertown, WI where they lived for 4 years. Then his family moved to Kansas City, KS where he grew up and graduated from JC Harmon High School. Cher was a giver with the biggest heart. As the second oldest son, he had many responsibilities and obligations growing up. Even as a young child he helped his parents navigate life in the US from parent/teacher conferences to doctor appointments. He helped his parents raise his younger siblings by gardening for fresh food, cooking meals for the family and helping with homework. After graduation he held various jobs to continue to support his large family. He later married and had his first daughter, Annabella. Eventually he moved to St. Paul, MN to focus on his new family. After his divorce he moved to Madison, WI to help care for his sick father. A few more years passed before he and Nancy met through mutual friends and started dating. They married and had a daughter together, Freyja. Cher and Nancy were married for over 13 years, they were inseparable; they supported and loved each other. They made future plans of moving to Kansas to be closer to his younger siblings, nieces, nephews and watch them grow. They also planned to travel the world together and try out different cuisines. Cher enjoyed fishing, bowling and collecting Pokemon cards. He was intrigued by history, especially Hmong history (his heritage). He was an amazing cook, a total foodie. He had a great sense of humor. Cher was a simple man who didn't need much to be happy. But he was determined to live a full and long life surrounded by family; sadly it was cut short. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Nancy, his children Annabella and Freyja; his siblings: Bla, Chue, Pang, Jenny, Anna, Yee, Kathy, Ploua, Pla, Angel, Mindy and Alleena; his many brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was a Christian who believed in God's word. He was an honest, loyal and gentle man. He loved his family unconditionally. We will miss his joy, laughter, humor and love. Thank you for helping us carry on his memory today and forever. We are blessed to have known and loved him.
