He was born on October 28, 1919 in Walcott, IA, the son of Albert and Clara (Beinke) Leabo. On November 12, 1944 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Maxine D. Jacobs, with whom he celebrated fifty-four years together as partners in life. They shared a love of attending Big Band dances for most of their life. The couple lived in Davenport, IA until moving to Reedsburg in 1983. Dote, as he was known to family and many friends, worked as a machinist during WWII at the Rock Island Arsenal in Illinois. He spent his career as an accountant working for Eagle Food Center, Elliott Flying Service, and Neu Oldsmobile in the Quad City area. After moving to Wisconsin, Dorwin was employed by Tri-State Breeders (now Accelerated Genetics) in Baraboo and Berning Implement in Reedsburg. Throughout his lifetime Dorwin worked crossword puzzles and was an avid reader, especially enjoying history and biographies of early presidents. He was a loyal fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears. After retiring he spent many hours making woodworking projects, particularly birdfeeders. The pride of his life was his family and any time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren was the highlight of his day. Dorwin will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband and father who always put his family's needs before his own. His kindness and generosity were unmatched. All who knew Dorwin appreciated his zest for life and wonderful sense of humor that put a sparkle in his eyes. His memory and spirit will be with us always.
