James A. Severson Jr.

James Arthur Severson Jr., 71, of Portage, Wisconsin, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2026. Jim was born on April 29, 1955, in Onalaska, Wisconsin, to his parents, James and Corinne Severson.
He proudly served his community as a firefighter with the South Shore Fire Department for 31 years, dedicating his career to protecting and serving others before retiring.
Jim loved the Wisconsin outdoors. He loved to hunt, fish, and especially golf. He was a lifelong, die-hard fan of all Wisconsin sports, cheering on the Badgers, Packers, Brewers, and Bucks. More than anything, he loved spending time with his kids and grandkids, especially when everyone would come up to see him in Portage.
He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered for his big heart, his laugh, his unfiltered sense of humor, his stories from the firehouse and the golf course, and his devotion to his family and friends.
Jim is survived by his children, Stefanie (Marc) Schmitz and Brandon (Sarah) Severson; his 5 grandchildren, Makayla, Hattie, Viola, Jordyn, and Jack; his sister, Bonnie Kleist; and his nephews, Michael Ehm and Steve Kleist, along with many extended family members, friends, and fellow firefighters.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Corinne Severson and his siblings, Ronnie, LaVon, Navay, Jan, and Loviday.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Grasse Funeral Home in Pardeeville, with a short service to follow. A luncheon celebrating Jim's life will be held after the service at "Thee Upper Crust" in Pardeeville.
